Thankfully, a potential answer to that conundrum is coming in just two weeks. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on May 21. The upcoming platformer is the most kid-friendly game of the Nintendo Switch 2 era, with a focus on laid-back gameplay and cheery visuals. Considering that Yoshi just got his starring moment in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it couldn’t be landing at a better time for parents who want to get their kids from Nintendo movies to games.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a great kids game
Over the past decade, Nintendo has slowly been working out what a full-on Yoshi game is. Is it a puzzle game? A precise platformer? A touch-controlled high score chase game? Nintendo finally cracked the code in 2015 with Yoshi’s Wooly World, a low-stakes platformer focused on treasure-collecting rather than putting Yoshi in mortal danger. The sidekick’s next game, Yoshi’s Crafted World, only doubled down on that by making something even more relaxing. Those two games are some of Nintendo’s best entry points for its youngest players.
