Apple chip manufacturing: Intel and Samsung explored



Apple is reportedly looking to reduce its reliance on TSMC for chip production, as it explores a more diversified manufacturing strategy.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is in early-stage discussions with Intel and has planned visits to a Samsung facility in Texas as part of efforts to expand domestic chip production. While these conversations reportedly began before the current wave of component shortages, supply chain pressures have since elevated their urgency.

The move comes amid broader supply constraints affecting Apple’s product lineup. During a recent earnings call, CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that it could take “several months” for the supply of the Mac mini and Mac Studio to catch up with demand. This highlights the challenges of relying on a single manufacturing partner.
