MAS set to tighten monetary policy allowing Singdollar to strengthen, say analysts; Man City beat Chelsea 3-0: Singapore live news

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is widely expected to tighten monetary policy on Tuesday (14 April) as conflict in the Middle East and energy supply disruptions raise inflation risks. In a Bloomberg survey conducted from 27 March to 9 April, 15 of 18 economists forecast tighter policy, while three expect no change and none predicted easing. Analysts say MAS is likely to steepen the slope of the Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate (S$NEER) band, allowing the currency to appreciate faster and helping to lower imported inflation.

In football news, Manchester City close gap on leaders Arsenal after a statement win (3-0) at Chelsea. City, with a game in hand, have closed the gap on Arsenal to six points and could cut the lead further when they face the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

The Premier League title race is well and truly alive after Manchester City won 3-0 at Chelsea on Sunday (12 April) to capitalise on Arsenal’s stuttering form.

Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday had opened the door for Pep Guardiola’s men and they made the most of the opportunity with three goals in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

Nico O’Reilly broke the deadlock in the 51st minute before Marc Guehi slotted in his first league goal for City six minutes later.

Jeremy Doku then pounced on an error by Moises Caicedo to complete Chelsea’s humiliation and leave Premier League leaders Arsenal looking over their shoulder.

City, with a game in hand, have closed the gap on Arsenal to six points and could cut the lead further when they face the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday.
