Forum: Clear and disciplined strategy needed for m investment in Singapore football


I was pleased to read the article, “FAS president Forrest Li’s company Sea pledges $50m to support development of S’pore football” (April 1).

With Singapore returning to the Asian Cup stage, the $50 million donation is both timely and significant. To translate this investment into meaningful progress, a clear and disciplined strategy is essential.

In the immediate term, the national team must benefit through regular exposure to top-level competition.

Arranging friendlies against leading Asian sides such as Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Australia will better prepare our players for the intensity, technical quality and physical demands of continental football.

Continuous improvement, not one-off success, should be the goal.
