Escape from Duckov, a game long awaited by looter-shooter fans, is finally out and blowing up on Steam. Its name might sound familiar, and that’s because Escape from Duckov puts a hilarious twist on the well-known extraction shooter, Escape from Tarkov.
Many consider Escape from Tarkov one of the best extraction shooter games of all time for its sheer influence on the genre. Since its release, several titles, including the newly released Escape from Duckov, have taken direct inspiration from it and built on its popular gameplay premise.
Escape from Duckov: Nearly 35,000 Concurrent Players on Day One
Launched on October 16 by the well-known publisher Bilibili, Escape from Duckov‘s Steam edition reached around 35,000 concurrent players on its first day. This is an impressive milestone for developer Team Soda, which has released only two other games on Valve’s storefront so far. In terms of critical reception, Bilibili’s looter shooter game holds a score of 73 out of 100 on OpenCritic, which is a solid result. However, the player base seems much more enthusiastic, with Escape from Duckov earning a Very Positive rating from Steam users.
Despite drawing clear inspiration from games like Escape from Tarkov, Team Soda’s looter shooter focuses on a top-down PvE experience filled with random encounters and environmental dangers. Players start as an ordinary soldier—though a duck in this case—tasked with exploring and scavenging across a massive map to collect supplies, materials, and weapons. The ultimate goal is to become an invincible duck and escape the planet. That said, crafting and survival elements play a crucial role in shaping the game’s events.
According to the developer, Escape from Duckov offers over 50 hours of content thanks to its ever-changing gameplay elements, making it a looter shooter game with high replayability. “No two expeditions are the same,” says Team Soda, noting that loot, enemies, and weather constantly change to keep the experience fresh. Players can also build and customize a base that serves as their military command center, where they can develop new gear and upgrade their arsenal.
Those looking to pick up Escape from Duckov should note that it’s normally priced at around $18 USD. However, to celebrate its launch week, the game is currently available at a 12% discount, bringing the price down to about $15 USD. The offer ends on October 30, so fans of extraction shooters or anyone looking for a new top-down action-adventure game may want to check it out soon.
