Japan’s Famous Budget Italian Café Saizeriya Is Opening Its First Malaysian Outlet This June

Saizeriya, a popular casual dining chain known in Japan for its very low-priced Italian-style dishes, has announced that it will be opening its first Malaysian outlet in June 2026

The company, often referred to simply as ‘Saize’, confirmed the news online, revealing that the upcoming branch will be a wholly owned outlet and will mark the beginning of its long-term expansion plans in Malaysia.

While neighbouring Singapore has had several Saizeriya outlets since 2008, this will be the very first time the chain sets up shop in Malaysia.

For now, details such as the restaurant’s exact location have not been revealed.

Saizeriya is something of a cult favourite in Japan, especially among students and families looking for a cheap but satisfying meal

Founded in 1967 in Ichikawa by Yasuhiko Shogaki, the restaurant was built on a simple idea: to offer authentic Italian flavours at an affordable price point so more people could enjoy them regularly.

Today, the chain operates more than 1,600 outlets across countries like Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This makes it one of the largest Italian restaurant chains in Asia.

Part of Saizeriya’s appeal is its extremely budget-friendly menu, serving dishes like pasta, pizzas, baked rice, grilled meats, and small sharing plates

Some of its most popular menu items include creamy carbonara pasta, margherita pizza, baked doria (rice gratin), and grilled sausages.

In Japan, many diners also love pairing their meals with Saizeriya’s famously cheap wine options.

Despite its low prices, the brand has built a reputation for consistently flavourful dishes and casual, family-friendly dining.

For its Malaysian launch, Saizeriya said it is currently preparing for Halal certification so Muslim customers can enjoy its menu with confidence

According to the company, the upcoming opening in June will mark the foundation phase of building Saizeriya Malaysia as it begins expanding in the country.

The brand also hinted that it is currently building its founding team locally and will be sharing more updates soon.

So if you have ever wanted to try Japan’s famously cheap Italian restaurant, you may not have to fly to Japan or Singapore anymore.
