Pokemon Winds and Waves is the next main Pokemon entry

Hard to believe that it’s been 30 years since we were introduced to Pokemon, with Red and Green (Blue to most of us) bringing would-be trainers all over the world to Kanto. To celebrate three decades of pocket monsters, The Pokemon Company hosted a video presentation on Pokemon Day with some key details about upcoming events and the future of the series, including:

The Gen 10 Pokemon Games, Winds and Waves

The biggest announcement from the show is Pokemon Winds and Waves, which will introduce the 10th generation of Pokemon. It’s definitely the right time considering the three-year gap since Scarlet and Violet were released. Of course, the introduction of a new game comes with a new region, and while the setting of Winds and Waves hasn’t been given a name, there’s heavy inspiration drawn from the tropics.

Game Freak states that Winds and Waves is set on “beautiful windswept islands,” and some of the biomes we see in the trailer include a rainforest, caves, sandy beaches and under the sea. There may be some Southeast Asian influences, too, including a terraced field and a mangrove swamp.

Browt, Pombon and Gecqua are the Grass, Fire and Water-type starters.

We’ll also be meeting these two, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, when we get to the new region.

While there isn’t any official word on what the Gen 10 roster will look like, we do know our three starters. As usual, it’s a Fire, Grass and Water-type; Pombon, a friendly puppy, Browt, a clumsy bean chick, and Gecqua, a water gecko with a bit of a smart streak. Some usual faces are teased to return as well, including Wailord, Tailow, Tangela and, of course, Pikachu.
