Highlights from February’s PlayStation State of Play

Another reveal with a TBA release date was that of a new John Wick game, developed by Saber Interactive. Unlike the God of War remake, however, there’s quite a lot to be gleaned from both the announcement and trailer; it’s billed as a AAA title, and despite the trailer not showing any on-engine gameplay, it shows off the direction that Saber is planning on taking with the title.

As you can tell, the game will take a lot of inspiration from the movies. Just as well that Saber is working closely with Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, the director and star of the franchise respectively, and film studio Lionsgate. No release date for this yet, however.

Ghost of Yotei co-op, Death Stranding 2 on PC, and other highlights

If you liked last year’s Ghost of Yotei (we sure did in our review), you might be pleased to know that free DLC Ghost of Yotei: Legends will be arriving on 10 March as part of the game’s 1.5 version update. Legends introduces online co-op to the title, with features to look forward to including multiple game modes and four classes to play as.

For a less traditional multiplayer experience, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be making its way to PC on 19 March. Fans of Kojima’s strand game vision might find the announcement of “new modes and features” on both desktop and home consoles to be intriguing, especially as new information about them will only be revealed over the next month.

Meanwhile, Bungie’s new extraction shooter Marathon, will kick off its release with a server slam running from 26 February to 2 March. The event does take place a week before the game’s actual release (6 March), but Bungie says that it’s meant to stress-test the game. Players can look forward to rewards like a unique emblem and player banner to mark their participation, and of course, being able to experience part of the game before release.

To round it off, we have Konami’s series of announcements; Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which contains MGS4, Peace Walker and Ghost of Babel, a new Castlevania entry titled Belmont’s Curse, and Rev. NOiR, which sees the studio return to the JRPG genre.

Other upcoming titles such as Bad Robot Games’s 4:Loop and Housemarque’s SAROS receive new gameplay showcases, while we got expanded viewings into the lore and story for IO Interactive’s 007 First Light and Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation.

And finally, indie games got their time in the sun too, particularly Ember Lab’s Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the newly-announced sequel to 2021’s Bridge of Spirits, a Game Awards winner for Best Indie.
