Trial run of QR code system at JB checkpoints’ motorcycle and pedestrian lanes starts Oct 15


KUALA LUMPUR – The trial run of the QR code system for immigration clearance at the motorcycle and pedestrian lanes of the two checkpoints in Johor Bahru to Singapore will begin on Oct 15.

The initiative at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex and Sultan Iskandar Building involves the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) and uses the MyNIISe mobile application.

It follows the successful implementation of the first phase of MyNIISe usage, which began on Sept 22 at the car lanes of the two checkpoints.

The Home Ministry has encouraged motorcyclists and pedestrians to download the MyNIISe app to generate their personal QR codes for use at designated lanes throughout the trial period.

“During this pilot phase, the current MyBorderPass and QR code system will still be operational.

“However, the public, including foreign visitors, are encouraged to transition to MyNIISe when passing through entry points that have activated the new system,” the ministry said in a statement on Oct 14.

More information on using the application is available on the MyNIISe app itself and related social media channels.

The app is available for download on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery.

The ministry also reminded travellers that valid travel documents or passports are still required for immigration clearance in accordance with the Immigration Act.

“This initiative is aimed at speeding up immigration checks, reducing congestion, and strengthening border security through more efficient and user-friendly digital technology,” it added.

The ministry said it is confident the initiative will serve as a new benchmark in the digitalisation of Malaysia’s immigration services, in line with the government’s aspirations to provide a more efficient, modern and people-centric border control system. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
