Tom Clancy’s ‘Jack Ryan’ is the latest show to be credited for predicting the future. Following a recent U.S. military action that led to the removal and capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, a clip from Season 2 of the Prime Video series has gone viral. The episode, released in 2019, shows CIA analyst Jack Ryan, played by John Krasinski, explaining why Venezuela should be considered “a major threat on the world stage”. In the scene, Ryan questions how one of the world’s most resource-rich countries could descend into a severe humanitarian crisis. He blames the fictional president for crippling the economy and driving up poverty. Social media users were quick to draw parallels between the clip and current events. Speaking to Deadline, the show’s co-creator Carlton Cuse said the similarities were not intentional, adding that the goal of that season was rooted in plausibility, not prophecy, and reflected Venezuela’s long-standing strategic relevance. “What always surprises you as a storyteller is how often real-world events catch up to fiction,” he said, adding that when a story is rooted in real geopolitical dynamics, “reality has a way of making it rhyme”. #fyp #venezuela #usa🇺🇸
