Where Winds Meet players will have the chance to try up to 12 types of Martial Arts, and seven different weapons that accompany each of them (sometimes, it’s the same type of weapon but a different martial art style). In terms of buildcraft, this Wuxia MMO can be a little confusing, especially for new players.
That’s why we’ve compiled this guide that offers some information on some of the best Weapon and Martial Arts combos for newcomers, which can be accessed relatively easily at the start of the adventure. The game has three defined roles: Support, DPS, and Tank, and each Martial Art is good for one of those types, so pay attention and take notes on how to get each of these martial arts and what they’re good for.
Updated December 28, 2025, by Luke Simons: With the recent content unlocks in Where Winds Meet, new players are trying these early game builds that bring good results and can carry them through most of the content until they reach the Jianghu. Some of the most notorious weapons and martial arts are unlocked early during the adventure, and some others require becoming proficient with Skill Theft and completing a series of Quests, but it’s wortth the trouble if what players wish is to acquire the best weapons for them.
Best Early Builds (Path Progression) in Where Winds Meet
If you want to optimize your early game progression in Where Winds Meet, here are a few ideas to help you get started.
Nameless Sword – Bellstrike (Splendor)
S Tier
- Why Is It Good: Versatility, Mobility, and Damage Mitigation, Decent Damage – A Well-Balanced Martial Art
- Goes Well With: Infernal Twinblades, Nameless Spear, Vernal Umbrella
- How to Obtain: Starting Martial Art
Nameless Sword is the basic starter Martial Arts in Where Winds Meet that the character has when the adventure begins, and contrary to what many MMOs propose (where the starter kit is often left for better options later in the game), this combination of martial arts and weapon is undoubtedly the best in Where Winds Meet (so far). With great mobility, damage, barrier generation, and the possibility to combine it with many Martial Paths.
Plus, its Heavy Attack acts as a Ranged attack (charged) that causes severe damage in a horizontal line, great for dealing with various enemies of causing additional damage when executing enemies.
Players can go with Infernal Twinblades for a high-mobility/parry-bruiser build, ideal for fighting lots of opponents or dealing single target damage, or with the Nameless Spear, for an off-tank option that pairs really well with the initial mobility of this Martial Path, changing swiftly into a defensive stance, gaining mitigation and overpowering a single target while dealing constant damage to surrounding foes.
Another good option to combine with the Nameless Sword is the Vernal Umbrella for a hybrid melee/ranged DPS. Good for PvE and PvP, the Nameless Sword has power and versatility, and players should definitely invest in this Longsword style instead of the Strategic Sword, which is flashy but difficult to use and combine with other martial arts.
Best Mystic Arts to Unlock First in Where Winds Meet
If you’ve just started playing Where Winds Meet, these are the best Mystic Arts you should unlock first.
Vernal Umbrella – Skillbind (Jade)
S Tier
- Why Is It Good: Mobility and Damage, ranged attacks, and crowd control
- Goes Well With: Inkwell Fan, Nameless Sword
- How to Obtain: Travel to Kaifeng, go to the Time Tower, and complete the Quest (it has a map marker)
With an enormous amount of crowd control and powerful ranged attacks to keep enemies at bay, the Vernal Umbrella qualifies as one of the best Weapon/Martial Arts Combos in WWM. Vernal Umbrella’s hidden passive accumulates a resource called ‘Blossoms’ and once they reach a certain charge, they can be used to execute special skills with the Charged Attack.
Its Spring Sorrow skill can immobilize Non-Boss enemies or players, and slow down bosses briefly, so it’s a great crowd control asset. On the contrary, the Spring Away attack is all about mobility and repositioning, gaining a brief instant of respite while also providing height to combine with certain Mystic Arts like Cloud Steps or Leaping Frog.
Vernal Umbrella combines perfectly with Inkwell Fan and Nameless Sword; both have their pros and cons, though Inkwell Fan grants Vernal Umbrella Martial Artists and combos with both Blossom Barrage and Flying Gourds inner paths, so it’s the optimal choice.
Infernal Twinblades – Bamboo Cut (Wind)
S Tier
The Infernal Twinblades Martial Arts combines extreme mobility with overwhelming light attack combos, and a rage mode that enhances damage and shatters the Exhaustion bar in seconds.
It is a fast and deadly series of combos, accompanied by two distinctive moves: A forward spiral lunge that deals damage while pushing enemies aside, and a single-target blade throw that bounces and spirals around the target, causing repeated damage.
Flamelash is its charge attack that unleashes a special ‘rage mode’, consuming Karmic Flame (represented by the glow over the weapon in the bottom right corner of the screen). Each strike has increased critical attack, but also rapidly consumes health, turning it into a sort of berserk mode with a high-risk/serious damage output trade-off.
It pairs nicely with Nameless Sword, thanks to the fluidity of the Weapon Swap animations, and with Strategic Sword, since it adds AoE coverage for PvE situations. Though Mortal Rope Dart is the recommended Martial Path for Infernal Twinblades, it lacks damage and exposes players too much. Rope Dart is a better combo with Vernal Umbrela or with the Gauntlets (not released yet in the Global Version).
Soulshade Umbrella – Skillbind (Deluge)
A Tier
- Why Is It Good: Buff, Survivability, Healing, Sustain
- Goes Well With: Panacea Fan
- How to Obtain: Soulshade Umbrella Post Station (East of Kaifeng)
A mixture of attack and Support, the Soulshade Umbrella is the ‘healing’ Martial Arts of the Umbrella Weapon, and comes with unique buff effects that can raise allies’ attributes (and the players’) at the cost of losing stopping power and damage.
Its AoE attacks extend the duration of the Exhausted status, granting players a bigger window of opportunity to land hits before executing bosses or other players.
