One person was killed and 18 others injured after an express bus crashed into a signboard pole at Km293.4 of the north-south highway (PLUS), heading north, near Bangi early this morning.
Selangor fire and rescue department deputy operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call was received at 2.57am.
“A team from the Bangi fire and rescue station was dispatched to the site of the accident. They were assisted by personnel from the Seri Kembangan and KLIA stations.
“A 59-year-old man was found trapped and later confirmed dead by a health ministry staff. The 18 injured persons, including the driver, were given some initial treatment at the site of the crash,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that all but three of the victims had already exited the bus before the fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene.
Mukhlis said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
