The man, identified as Chang Wen, allegedly threw smoke bombs near Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan Station before attacking passers-by with a knife near the Eslite Spectrum Nanxi building. He later fled during a police chase and reportedly fell from the building, where he was pronounced dead at 7:42pm, TVBS World Taiwan reported. His motive remains unclear. Authorities said Chang had a criminal record and was wanted for evading military service. He also allegedly set fire to his apartment, car and two motorcycles, and 25 Molotov cocktails were found in a hotel room he had stayed in.
