I’m guessing you guys are kind of bored by the sheer number of Nanyang-style cafes opening up around Singapore, especially after the popular Oriental Kopi from Malaysia landed here. But we’re not turning down another addition to the ever-growing list. Ubi residents may already be familiar with Next Chapter Eating House at 304 Ubi Avenue 1, which opened in Apr 2025.

The eatery has been flying under the radar on social media, only making its Instagram debut in November.

The owner, Ipoh-born Mr Chong, used to work in the F&B industry in Singapore for 20 years before deciding to open his very own cafe. Next Chapter Eating House prides itself in using charcoal to grill its range of meats and crafting its own kaya.

The Charcoal Roasted Char Siew Wanton Noodles (S$5.30) was a great start. The thin mee kia, enveloped in a savoury-sweet dark soya-based sauce, was crowned with slices of charred char siew, a couple of fried wantons, green veggie, and a bowl of soup with 3 boiled dumplings.
