3 taken to hospital after large tree branch falls on cars on ECP

SINGAPORE – Three people were taken to hospital after a large tree branch fell on at least two cars on the ECP on the afternoon of Nov 29.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force and police said they were alerted to an accident involving a trailer and five cars on the ECP in the direction of the city, just before the Fort Road exit, at about 1.35pm.

A 71-year-old male car driver and his 32-year-old male passenger, and another 70-year-old male car driver, were taken conscious to Raffles Hospital.

Two others were assessed for minor injuries, but declined to be taken to hospital.

In response to The Straits Times’ queries, the National Parks Board (NParks) said it was alerted to the “tree branch snap” incident at about 2pm.

Mr Oh Cheow Sheng, NParks’ group director for streetscape, said a tall vehicle travelling in the first lane had struck a rain tree (Samanea saman) branch, causing it to snap and fall onto trailing vehicles in the first and second lanes.
