Ren Ci Hospital CEO to helm the Institute of Mental Health from Feb 1

SINGAPORE – NHG Health has appointed Dr Jamie Mervyn Lim as chief executive of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) from Feb 1, 2026.

Dr Lim, who is currently seconded to Ren Ci Hospital as CEO, will relinquish his post there on Jan 18 and become the CEO designate at IMH from Jan 19.

He will take over the IMH role from Associate Professor Daniel Fung, who was IMH’s Medical Board chairman between 2011 and 2021 and its CEO since Feb 1, 2021.

NHG Health, which announced the upcoming change in a press release on Nov 18, said Dr Lim brings with him extensive leadership experience across the acute and community care sectors.

Taking over from Dr Lim as CEO of Ren Ci Hospital is Associate Professor Yong Keng Kwang, who is currently IMH’s assistant CEO and the group chief nurse and chief wellness officer at NHG Health.

Prior to Dr Lim’s Ren Ci appointment, he was chief operating officer at Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2015 to 2022.

Professor Joe Sim, group chief executive of NHG Health, said that Dr Lim’s strong and extensive experience and expertise in acute, community and rehab care will complement IMH’s next lap, which is to build even more whole-of-life mental health continuum, where care is sustained beyond the hospital.

“(As) IMH is home to one-third of all psychiatrists in Singapore, it has a responsibility to support other public hospitals,” he added.

During Dr Lim’s tenure, Ren Ci saw an expansion of its services to the north of Singapore with the successful opening of its third nursing home in Woodlands, bringing Ren Ci’s total bed capacity to more than 1,300.

He also transformed its home care services and built new capabilities for Ren Ci. Today, Ren Ci is the only organisation with a full suite of services for post-acute care, said NHG Health.

Speaking of Prof Fung’s contributions to IMH during his tenure as CEO, NHG Health said that under his leadership, IMH strengthened its role as NHG Health’s specialist centre for psychiatric care in Singapore.

Prof Fung is widely recognised, both locally and internationally, as a strong advocate for whole-of-society approach to mental health, it added.

Prof Sim said of Prof Fung: “Over the past four years, under Daniel’s stewardship, IMH has further advanced prevention and community care, pushing Singapore upstream in mental health.”

He added that he was “especially appreciative of his leadership in bridging mental healthcare into our broader hospital network”.
