One of the this year’s biggest fiction releases is now available in a gorgeous new collectible hardcover edition. Sunrise on the Reaping, the fifth novel in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling dystopian series The Hunger Games, received a Collector’s Gift Edition on November 4. Now, less than a week later, the Sunrise on the Reaping Collector’s Gift Edition is on sale for $24.74 (was $33) at Amazon. As an added bonus, you can actually save more than 25% because Amazon made the new edition eligible for this week’s Buy Two, Get One Free Book Sale ahead of Black Friday.
The Collector’s Gift Edition isn’t the only fancy version of a Hunger Games novel included in the B2G1 Free Sale either. The Hunger Games Deluxe Edition Box Set, which comes with the first four books in the series, is on sale for only $35.24 and featured in the B2G1 Free Sale. For your third product, check out the newly launched Catching Fire: Illustrated Edition for $27.74 (was $37). Here’s a quick rundown of the notable B2G1 Free Hunger Games books and box sets, including the 5-Book Hardcover Box Set for $61 (was $125).

The new Collector’s Gift Edition of Sunrise on the Reaping retains the color scheme and songbird and snake logo from the original hardcover edition, but the logo is surrounded by metallic foil patterns that give it a fancier look. The page edges are stained purple and decorated with stenciled lavender and yellow flowers flanking a quote from the book: “Our tears will not be used for their entertainment.” New full-color endpapers can be found inside the front and back covers.
Similar to retailer-exclusive editions of the original hardcover, the Gift Edition has exclusive content at the end of the book.
More than 1.5 million copies of Sunrise on the Reaping were sold worldwide during launch week in March, so it would not be surprising at all if the Collector’s Gift Edition sold out before it’s time to unwrap presents this holiday.

You could pair the new Sunrise on the Reaping Collector’s Gift Edition with the beautiful and budget-friendly Deluxe Edition paperbacks of the first four books. These were published in February, a month before Sunrise on the Reaping’s release.
As mentioned, the Deluxe Edition Box Set is on sale for 50% off and eligible for Amazon’s B2G1 Free Book Sale. Each individual Deluxe Edition is also steeply discounted, but only Mockingjay is included in Amazon’s promotion.
The Deluxe Editions have exclusive cover art that pays homage to the original covers. Instead of being commemorated on pins, the mockingjay on these covers is alive and surrounded by foliage. The scene wraps around to the back covers thanks to the stained page edges with stenciled artwork.

Longtime fans who have already read The Hunger Games series multiple times should check out The Hunger Games: Illustrated Edition. Published last October, the 368-page oversized hardcover is on sale for nearly 50% off and eligible for Amazon’s B2G1 Free Book Sale. The text is accompanied by 30 highly detailed black-and-white illustrations by artist Nico Delort.

Scholastic Press just published Catching Fire’s Illustrated Edition on October 7, but it’s also eligible for Amazon’s B2G1 Free Sale. The 384-page oversized hardcover is discounted to $27.74 (was $37). Like the first book’s Illustrated Edition, Catching Fire has 30 exclusive black-and-white drawings by Nico Delort.

The Hunger Games 5-Book Hardcover Box Set is also on sale for 50% off and eligible for Amazon’s B2G1 Free promotion. Published in June with a $125 MSRP, this premium collection totals 2,112 pages and is discounted to only $60.90. The hardcover editions of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping are also included in the promotion, but the mainline trilogy isn’t eligible. That said, the hardcover editions of the first three books total $30 combined thanks to each book being discounted by more than 50%.
If you buy the new Gift Edition of Sunrise on the Reaping, you can get the first four books in hardcover for roughly $46 combined. You will out on the decorative display box, though.

The Hunger Games was published in 2008, and the two sequels, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, followed in 2009-10. After a 10-year hiatus, Collins returned in 2020 with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Set 64 years prior to Katniss volunteering as tribute, the novel focuses on Coriolanus Snow as a young man and the 10th Hunger Games. Sunrise on the Reaping follows Haymitch Abernathy, one of the District 12 tributes for the 50th Hunger Games, which takes place roughly 25 years before the original novel.
If you haven’t read the full series, it’s generally recommended to read them in the order they were published, but you can also read them in chronological order: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, then Sunrise on the Reaping, then the original trilogy.

If you want to add all five movies to your collection, the 5-Film Blu-ray box set is your best bet in terms of value. Released last June, the 8-disc set comes with three Blu-rays and five DVDs. It also includes a voucher for digital editions from Vudu, though it’s possible the codes have expired by now.
- The Hunger Games (2012)
- Catching Fire (2013)
- Mockingjay: Part 1 (2014)
- Mockingjay: Part 2 (2023)
- The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
The collection is packaged with the slipcover shown above. All five movies support DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
Alternatively, The Hunger Games 4-Movie Blu-ray Collection is available for $20 at Amazon. You’d need to buy The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes separately, but this could be a good option for those who want the Steelbook Edition of the latest Hunger Games movie.
Amazon also has The Hunger Games 4-Film Collection on DVD for only $8.75.
$14-$18 each
The 5-Film Collection hasn’t received a 4K Blu-ray release in the US, but the Australian edition is region-free. Amazon has been stocking more and more international editions lately, and The Hunger Games 4K Blu-ray box set is an example of that. If you pick up the 4K Blu-ray edition, your order is sold and shipped directly from Amazon.
The downside here is that the 4K Blu-ray set is priced substantially higher than the 1080p edition at $94. It’s also more expensive than buying all five 4K Blu-ray editions on their own. The 4K editions of the movies are priced at $14-$18 each, with the whole series costing roughly $70 at the moment.
Before buying The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on 4K Blu-ray, make sure to check out Walmart’s exclusive Steelbook Edition, which is in stock for only $25.
The Hunger Games on 4K Blu-ray
The 4K editions have HDR10 and two surround sound formats: Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1. The audio and visual enhancements are significant, so it’s worth considering the box set or standalone 4K Blu-ray editions.
With Sunrise on the Reaping’s film adaptation not releasing until November 20, 2026, many fans will want to refresh their memory by rewatching the series, so any of the box sets or 4K Blu-rays would make for great gifts this holiday.
