Longtime fans of the series will no doubt know why you are unable to open these items, but new players, and even players of the DQ3 <\/em>remake, may find it a bit trickier. Like that game, there are various keys found throughout the world that unlock associated doors, but Dragon Quest 2 Remake <\/em>also features locked chests.<\/strong> In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock all doors and chests<\/strong>, and how to get all keys in Dragon Quest 2 Remake. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n How to Unlock Doors and Chests in Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake \n <\/h2>\n
\n For Every Key, A Color: \n <\/h3>\n
In DQ2 Remake, <\/em>there are three types of locked doors and chests<\/strong> that players will encounter over the course of their journey. Each door and chest is tied to a specific key, each of which is represented by a unique color. The colors, and the keys associated with them, are as follows:<\/p>\n

\n Red Doors <\/strong>and Red Wood Chests: <\/strong>Thief’s Key<\/strong>\n <\/li>\n
\n Blue Doors <\/strong>and Blue<\/strong> Chests: Magic Key<\/strong>\n <\/li>\n
The silver chests have something of a green tint to them, which can be confusing. Essentially, any of the chests that look silvery green will be unlocked with the Ultimate Key. All three keys are unlocked over the course of the main story, but it still helps to know exactly when each key will be acquired. This will help avoid hours of aimless wandering, hoping you stumble across that pesky Ultimate Key, only to realize later that you cannot get it until very late in the game. <\/p>\n
The three keys are spaced out evenly over the course of the game, with each providing access to a wide range of new locations and items. The description of how to acquire each key will continue below. <\/p>\n

\n How to Get the Thief’s Key in Dragon Quest 2 Remake \n <\/h2>\n

The Thief’s Key <\/strong>will be the first key acquired that allows you to gain access to locked doors and chests. This key will allow you to open red doors <\/strong>and unlock Red Wood Chests, <\/strong>which have a very distinct appearance, and are different from the basic red chests that the hero can freely open. <\/p>\n
\n Reach Moonbrooke Castle: \n <\/h3>\n
To acquire the Thief’s Key in DQ2 Remake<\/em><\/strong>, you’ll need to reach Moonbrooke Castle, <\/strong>and complete the process of recruiting Peronel, <\/strong>the Princess of Moonbrooke<\/strong> to your party. This will occur during the main story, after you’ve successfully recruited Caradoc<\/strong>, the Prince of Cannock<\/strong> to your party. To recruit Peronel, you’ll need to complete the following tasks:<\/p>\n

\n When visiting Moonahan, notice the lost dog<\/strong> that follows you when spoken to.\n <\/li>\n
\n Reach Moonbrooke Castle<\/strong> near the center of the map.\n <\/li>\n
\n Make your way to the western edge of the castle grounds, then into the courtyard where the cutscene between Peronel and her father took place. There, you will encounter a flower that appears to have some connection to Peronel. A voice will guide you to the Swamp Shrine<\/strong> east of Moonbrooke.\n <\/li>\n
\n Collect Ra’s Mirror<\/strong> from the Swamp Shrine\n <\/li>\n
\n Return to Moonahan and interact with the lost dog.\n <\/li>\n
\n The dog is revealed to be Peronel.<\/strong>\n <\/li>\n
\n Once Peronel is in the party, return to Moonbrooke Castle. The Chancellor of Moonbrooke<\/strong> will give you the Thief’s Key<\/strong> after revealing himself.\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n How to Get the Magic Key in Dragon Quest 2 Remake \n <\/h2>\n

\n Help the Dream-Whisperer s & the Mermaid Queen: \n <\/h3>\n
The first step to getting the Magic Key <\/strong>in Dragon Quest 2 Remake, <\/em>is to make your way to Rippleport and acquire the Ship<\/strong>, which will open up several destination options. Follow these steps to get the Magic Key:<\/p>\n
\n
\n Collect the Star, Moon, and Sun Sigils. These are located at the Lighthouse, Dirkandor, <\/strong>and Burrowell\/Shrine of Flames <\/strong>respectively.\n <\/li>\n
\n Once you’ve collected the first three sigils, you’ll receive a vision from the Over-Seer asking for your help. Head to the Shrine of Rain. <\/strong>\n <\/li>\n
\n Speak to the Over-Seer, who will send you to Gaggle Rock <\/strong>to speak with the mermaids in hopes of acquiring the Faerie Trumpet<\/strong>.\n <\/li>\n
\n Enter the Faerie Palace <\/strong>and defeat Belial. <\/strong>Obtain Lorelei’s Harp<\/strong>.\n <\/li>\n
\n Return to Gaggle Rock and speak with the mermaids.\n <\/li>\n
\n Head to Mermaid’s Sanctuary<\/strong> and face Toadalitarian<\/strong>.\n <\/li>\n
\n Once complete, you will automatically be transported back to Mersea<\/strong>. Once you have freedom of movement, head to the Royal Square <\/strong>and meet with the Mermaid Queen. At the end of the conversation, she’ll reward you with the Magic Key. <\/strong>\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n How to Get the Ultimate Key in Dragon Quest 2 Remake \n <\/h2>\n

The Ultimate Key <\/strong>is the final key you’ll unlock in Dragon Quest 2 Remake, <\/em>but you’ll have to wait until quite late in the game before you can acquire it. To get the key, you’ll first need to collect all five sigils, and make your way into the snow-covered realm of Rendarek<\/strong>. This is where the game’s final chapter takes place, so you won’t be able to miss it. You’ll simply need to follow DQ2 Remake<\/em>‘s main story. <\/p>\n
Once you enter Rendarek, you’ll want to visit the Rendarek Shrine. <\/strong>The shrine is found in the northeast corner of Rendarek. Once you enter the shrine, head to the very back of the building and speak to the priest. This will be a brief interaction, and the priest will hand over the Ultimate Key. <\/strong><\/p>\n
From this point forward, you’ll be able to unlock all locked doors and chests in Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake. <\/em><\/p>\n
