However, while Ireland has been seen as one of its main destinations to cut how much tax it pays, it did even better by using a different territory.

In an annual Apple disclosure in line with U.S. reporting rules, the Financial Times says Apple took advantage of the tax incentives in Singapore to a great effect. It funneled about $50 billion in profits through the Asian hub in 2026 alone.

The move helped cut $2.7 billion that would’ve been paid out in tax, and instead stays within Apple’s accounts.

It turns out the savings are greater than what Apple saves from using its European HQ in Ireland. In the same timeframe, going through Ireland achieved a significant but slightly lower $2.6 billion tax saving.

Careful, Icarus

Apple does have a vested interest to try and spread its finances to other parts of the world, just to avoid paying too much tax.

The corporation taxes Apple paid totaled $27 billion this year. However, if it had been taxed on its global profits at the U.S. federal rate, the figure would’ve been $33 billion.

With such massive sums at play, Apple does have to try and be as tax-efficient as possible. Sometimes, this occurs to an extreme degree, and it has burned Apple before.

The biggest and most egregious example of tax saving is through Ireland, after the European Commission deemed Apple to have had illegal state aid. That was because Apple was charged just 0.005% tax in 2014 and 1% in 2003.

This resulted in a legal battle between Apple, Ireland, and the EU, as well as the payment of over $14 billion into an escrow account. Eventually, the European Court of Justice sided with the European Commission.

That resulted in Apple putting a $17 billion tax payment to Ireland in 2025, pushing the total up to $43 billion for the year.

Apple has saved $2.7 billion in taxes in 2026 thanks to funneling its finances through Singapore, better than its usual move involving Ireland. As a…

[2611

post-98377","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-buzz-headlines","wpcat-2611-id
["GET
