{"id":98149,"date":"2026-11-07T21:30:30","date_gmt":"2026-11-07T13:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=98149"},"modified":"2026-11-07T21:30:30","modified_gmt":"2026-11-07T13:30:30","slug":"union-condemns-abuse-of-singapore-bus-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=98149","title":{"rendered":"Union condemns abuse of Singapore bus driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 The National Transport Workers\u2019 Union (NTWU) said it strongly condemns any form of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/transport\/public-transport-workers-guaranteed-legal-support-in-cases-of-abuse-police?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">intimidation, threat or abuse directed at public transport workers,<\/span><\/a> after a Go-Ahead Singapore bus driver was reportedly verbally abused and threatened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The <!-- -->Nov 4 i<!-- -->ncident involved a bus driver operating <!-- -->service 136 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6<!-- -->, the union said in a social media statement on Nov 7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NTWU said it has contacted the affected bus driver,<!-- --> <!-- -->who is a member of the union.<!-- --> It added that it is<!-- --> in contact with Go-Ahead Singapore to ensure that the driver receives the necessary assistance and support, including legal support, where needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The union added that it understands a police report has been lodged. The Straits Times has contacted the police for more information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In video footage of the incident, taken by another commuter and uploaded to Instagram page <!-- -->@sgfollowsall<!-- -->, a man is seen confronting the driver while the bus is moving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At one point, he makes a gesture with his arm that looks like he is close to punching the driver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As at 7pm on Nov 7, the video has garnered more than 129,000 views, with many social media users criticising the man for his behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">One user said: \u201cProvoke or not&#8230; violence and bully is a no no!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Some said that confronting the bus driver while the vehicle is in motion could have caused an accident. They added that the driver should have stopped the vehicle to ensure the safety of passengers and road users.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Union condemns abuse after viral video of class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Some also pointed out that no one came to the defence of the bus driver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In its statement,<!-- --> <!-- -->the union said: \u201cOur bus captains work hard every day to keep Singapore moving, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Members of the public who have concerns or complaints about public transport services should raise them through proper channels, NTWU said. \u201cThreatening or intimidating our transport workers is never acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The union added that it will continue to stand firmly behind Singapore\u2019s transport workers and work with public transport operators to ensure their safety and well-being.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Nov 4 incident is the latest in a string of reported incidents that involved public transport workers being assaulted or threatened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On one occasion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/go-ahead-bus-driver-allegedly-assaulted-second-case-in-three-months?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">another Go-Ahead bus driver was assaulted on <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/go-ahead-bus-driver-allegedly-assaulted-second-case-in-three-months?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">Aug 16<\/span><\/a> at about 5.20pm<!-- --> while he was operating bus service 2, which runs between Changi Village Terminal and Kampong Bahru Terminal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Go-Ahead Singapore said in a social media post on <!-- -->Aug 27<!-- --> that the trip was disrupted and that the driver sought medical attention at Changi General Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On <!-- -->May 23<!-- -->, a passenger who was angered that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/bus-captain-allegedly-assaulted-by-passenger-after-missed-stop?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">his bus stop had been missed verbally abused and physically assaulted a Go-Ahead driver<\/span><\/a> while he was driving <!-- -->bus service 2<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Following the incident, the trip was disrupted and the bus driver subsequently sought medical attention at Changi General Hospital, Go-Ahead Singapore said in a <!-- -->May 26 social media post<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The NTWU said the driver <!-- -->reported experiencing blurred vision after the incident<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary
