{"id":97976,"date":"2026-11-06T22:09:00","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T14:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=97976"},"modified":"2026-11-06T22:09:00","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T14:09:00","slug":"grab-av-near-miss-with-girl-in-punggol-under-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=97976","title":{"rendered":"Grab AV near-miss with girl in Punggol under review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->A girl was almost hit by a Grab autonomous vehicle (AV) crossing in Punggol on Nov 5, with the ride-hailing and delivery company saying the incident is being reviewed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A video of the near-miss incident posted on Facebook shows the AV making a left turn at a junction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As the vehicle approaches the pedestrian crossing, a girl on the pedestrian walkway to the vehicle\u2019s left steps off the kerb to cross the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The traffic lights are green for both the pedestrian and the AV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The vehicle does not stop before the pedestrian crossing, and the girl halts as the vehicle drives past in front of her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A woman can then be seen approaching the girl and pulling her away from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The vehicle then appears to slow down before moving off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The video has since garnered over 260,000 views and 1,000 reactions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A comparison between the video and Google Maps shows that the incident occurred in Punggol Field Walk.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Schoolgirl nearly hit by Grab autonomous shuttle at road crossing in Punggol\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IItpYvnBUMc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The location is near the site of another accident involving an AV in January, in which the AV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/comfortdelgro-self-driving-vehicle-collides-with-road-divider-in-punggol-no-one-injured?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"inline font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"typography-test-id\">collided with a road divider in Edgedale Plains<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In response to media queries, a Grab spokesperson said the company is aware of the latest incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cSafety is our top priority.
