Truly every time I travel back to Hong Kong, the first thing I want to eat is a bowl of congee or noodles.

When I crave something from my childhood, I will go to Hung Kee (Shop B2, Block B, Kwong Sang Hong Building, 6 Heard Street, Wan Chai. Tel: 3708 8715). I like the pork bone congee and the pan-fried rice noodle rolls with egg, which to me is basically a Chinese version of an omelette. Even though it is a small shop, they also do seasonal dishes like Cantonese-style lamb brisket with rice and Chinese cured meat with glutinous rice in winter. They make sure these foods are not just memories to me.

<img decoding="async" alt="Pan-fried cheung fun with egg at Hung Kee.
