Weeks ago, Apple launched its long-rumoured smart home hub. It’s called the HomeView, and while the rumours were mostly spot on, it was missing features that some of us were expecting – like a robotic swivelling arm.

As it turns out, Apple could have a bigger and more sophisticated model up its sleeves. A new report says Apple has a larger HomeView in the works and it could arrive as early as next year.

According to The Information, the device may be called the HomeView Ultra or HomeView Max. A prototype is said to feature a 9-inch display mounted on a swivelling arm, with a design reminiscent of the old iMac G4 or Pixar’s iconic desk lamp mascot.

Rumours say the smart home hub will be equipped with a camera and sensors that will allow it to respond autonomously to its surroundings. For example, it could switch on lights when someone walks into a room. Its arm is also said to be “smart enough to avoid accidentally hitting objects around it”.

Despite having its hardware finalised two years ago, the device was reportedly been held back by “internal disagreements” over which software features should make it into the first-generation model. Given that Apple recently launched the HomeView, that should mean that these disagreements have been ironed out.

The HomeView Ultra or Max is tentatively slated to launch in 2027, and is reported to have a launch price of around US$1,000 (~S$1,280).

Apple unveiled the HomeView last month, with two variants priced at S$399 each.
