A Grab passenger who boarded her ride past midnight said she was taken on an hour-long journey in what she described as a \u201cgenuinely frightening\u201d experience, with the driver purportedly taking multiple detours and asking her to alight at a deserted bus stop.<\/p>\n
The passenger, Rose Anne Apostol-Del Rosario, told Stomp that the incident happened in the early hours of Oct 25.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old childcare teacher was travelling home from Circuit Road to Yishun at the time. Her friend had helped her book a Grab ride, which arrived at around 12.50am.<\/p>\n
At first, everything seemed fine. She recounted how the driver was \u201cfriendly and talkative\u201d and the pair even chatted and laughed together during the ride.<\/p>\n
The driver initially headed towards Lentor Avenue, but encountered a closed road, according to Rosario. She said he then attempted a route along Upper Thomson Road, which was also closed, before heading towards the Seletar Bus Depot located in Yio Chu Kang.<\/p>\n
In a TikTok post about the incident<\/a>, Rosario recounted that it was already 1.30am by then.<\/p>\n \u201cThe night was hazy, cold, and eerily quiet,\u201d she writes, adding that the driver had told her there was \u201cno other way to get to Yishun<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThings became frightening when he repeatedly encountered closed roads and said there was no other way to get me home,\u201d she told Stomp. \u201cHe even asked whether I had friends nearby whom I could stay with.\u201d<\/p>\n Rosario\u2019s friend, who had booked the Grab<\/a> ride, noticed through the app that the car had diverted from the planned route and gave her a call.<\/p>\n
