\n**Police To Use ERP 2 To Track Vehicles In Criminal Investigations From January 2027**<\/p>\n

Singapore drivers may soon have their vehicle movements used as evidence in criminal investigations.<\/p>\n

From January 2027, the police and other Home Team agencies will be able to use data collected through the new ERP 2 system to prevent, detect and solve crimes.<\/p>\n

Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming revealed the development in Parliament on 3 November.<\/p>\n

While ERP 2 is primarily designed for road pricing, LTA can retrieve vehicle-specific location data when required for enforcement purposes.<\/p>\n

The system can also help detect offences such as driving deregistered vehicles, using off-peak cars outside permitted hours and driving vehicles that are under laid-up schemes.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the police will only retain vehicle-specific data for as long as necessary, including the duration required for investigations and court proceedings.<\/p>\n

However, motorists will not be able to directly access data stored in their on-board units (OBUs). Information transmitted by the devices can only be accessed by the Government and is kept in a secure environment.<\/p>\n
