{"id":9658,"date":"2025-11-07T16:28:32","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T08:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=9658"},"modified":"2025-11-07T16:28:32","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T08:28:32","slug":"london-chinese-restaurant-owner-amy-poon-on-keeping-things-steamy-at-her-new-venture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=9658","title":{"rendered":"London Chinese restaurant owner Amy Poon on keeping things steamy at her new venture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Opening any restaurant is a huge undertaking, but launching in Somerset House, an 18th-century historic building overlooking the River Thames in London, comes with its own set of challenges.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cBasically, you can barely breathe in the building without asking permission,\u201d jokes culinary entrepreneur Amy Poon, who launched Poon\u2019s at Somerset House on November 5.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\"><span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Poon<\/span> says that restrictions became a problem when the builders discovered dampness in the basement just over a month before the restaurant was originally scheduled to open in September.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The issue had to be resolved by meticulously drying the space out and sealing up leaks, which in part led to pushing the opening back two months \u2013 to November 5 \u2013 a date approved by Poon\u2019s mother Cecilia, who had the restaurant checked over by a feng shui master.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1qeofuq e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-0 e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The interior of Poon\u2019s at Somerset House.
