\nDid you know that using a plastic chair, traffic cone or even your own body to chope a public parking lot is illegal in BOTH Singapore and Malaysia? \ud83c\uddf8\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddfe<\/p>\n

In Malaysia, motorists who unlawfully block others from using a parking space could face a fine of up to **RM2,000 (around S$600)** for a first offence. Repeat offenders could be fined up to RM4,000 (around S$1,200) or face jail time of up to 12 months.<\/p>\n

Singapore has similar rules under its Parking Places Rules. Anyone placing objects such as chairs, bins or cones to obstruct a public parking lot could face enforcement action.<\/p>\n

Depending on the offence, penalties in Singapore can reach **S$1,000 under the Parking Places Act**, while obstruction involving public roads could carry fines of up to S$2,000 for a first offence.<\/p>\n

So whether you are in Singapore or across the Causeway, don’t assume you can reserve a parking lot simply by standing in it or leaving your belongings there.<\/p>\n

**A public parking lot is not your personal property.**<\/p>\n
