What was supposed to be a routine teeth scaling and polishing session at a dental clinic in Johor Bahru (JB) turned into a painful ordeal for a woman, who said a large cavity was drilled into her tooth unexpectedly.<\/p>\n
Ms Li (transliterated), a woman from Singapore, told Shin Min Daily News that the incident occurred on Sept 4, at Q&M Dental Group\u2019s clinic branch at Taman Sentosa<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 40-year-old said she had previously visited the chain\u2019s Bukit Indah branch for scaling and polishing. However, when she could not secure an appointment there that day, she made a last-minute switch to its Taman Sentosa branch.<\/p>\n Although she had initially requested only scaling and polishing, believing there was nothing wrong with her teeth, the dentist<\/a> recommended that she get a filling.<\/p>\n Li said she had expected the procedure to involve simply filling the tooth. However, the dentist began drilling without warning, causing her severe pain.<\/p>\n She added that the resulting cavity appeared huge.<\/p>\n She added that the resulting cavity appeared very large.<\/p>\n PHOTO: SHIN MIN DAILY NEWS INTERVIEWEE<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n In total, Li said she paid RM383.72 (S$120) for the procedure.<\/a><\/p>\n Afterwards, the area around the filling became inflamed, causing the side of her face to swell.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve never experienced so much pain in my life,\u201d said Li, who had to take painkillers to manage the pain.<\/p>\n When she sent photos to Q&M Dental Group\u2019s customer service team, she was told that the nerve of her tooth had become exposed. The clinic then arranged for her to see a senior dentist.<\/p>\n About two weeks later, Li visited the dental chain\u2019s branch at Mount Austin, where the dentist redid the filling.<\/p>\n \u201cThey suddenly removed all the filling material and redid everything, but it still was not done properly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Li claims that her tooth remains sensitive, and that she would experience a sharp pain whenever she drinks water or rinses her mouth. She adds that her teeth would dig into her gums whenever she closes her mouth.<\/p>\n Frustrated by the experience, she contacted the dental clinic\u2019s customer service several times to provide feedback, but said the responses were slow.<\/p>\n She also regretted her decision to get the filling in the first place.<\/p>\n \u201cI also want to tell people that making a special trip to JB for cheaper dental treatment<\/a> may not necessarily be worth it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Li also claimed that Q&M Dental Group\u2019s customer service team had recommended root canal treatment upon pointing out her exposed nerve, and even offered to cover the related costs.<\/p>\n However, during her second visit, Li was reluctant to proceed with root canal treatment immediately and decided to have the filling redone first.<\/p>\n When the second round of filling failed to resolve the problem, she contacted the clinic to arrange for root canal<\/a> treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cTo my surprise, they said there was nothing wrong with the dentist\u2019s treatment, so they would not cover the cost of the root canal treatment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Li described the clinic\u2019s explanations as contradictory and said it had been unable to offer an effective solution.<\/p>\n In response to queries, Q&M Dental Group said it has always taken patient feedback seriously and is committed to maintaining high standards of professional care.<\/p>\n The group said it would investigate the matter and follow up directly on the patient\u2019s complaint in accordance with its established procedures.<\/p>\n However, to protect its patients\u2019 privacy, the group will not be providing details on the treatment procedures.<\/p>\n Q&M Dental Group also stressed that it would continue to handle patients\u2019 complaints and concerns responsibly and professionally.<\/p>\n Have something to say?
