The coastal Philippine municipality in the province of Palawan, famous for idyllic beaches and towering karst cliffs, is currently only serviced by the tiny Lio Airport, a domestic airstrip owned and operated by the airline Cebu Pacific. Considering how clean and clear the sands and waters in this protected area are \u2013 El Nido serves as the gateway to the Bacuit Bay archipelago, which is made up of 45 islands and tinier islets \u2013 it\u2019s easy to see why. After a half-hour drive from the airport and a short speedboat ride whisking me away from the main Palawan island, the resort gradually comes into view, nestled inside a gorgeous cove and surrounded by a secluded lagoon.
