residents.

Explaining how the measures were determined, Muhaimin said the team considered the survey data and on-site research by the SKTC estate team.

The team looked at factors, including distance between courts and residential areas, sound frequency of pickleball play, residents’ feedback and site layout and environmental features.

The Straits Times has contacted the town council for more information, including the current number of pickleball courts under its care.

Pickleball is known to make sharp sounds when the plastic balls strike hard paddles and ricochet off the floor.

Releasing its survey findings on Oct 8, the town council said more than half, or 55.1%, of the 2092 resident respondents said they were negatively affected by pickleball activities, with the top grievance being noise from ball impact.

This was followed by noise from players’ voices, littering and other issues such as hoarding or being unable to use the court for other activities.

Some 32.2% of the survey respondents identified themselves as pickleball players and of this group, 90.5% do not use sound dampening equipment with 41.5% of those who do not saying they were unwilling to do so.

Respondents were also asked to rank a series of regulatory measures from strongly acceptable to strong unacceptable, and implementing designated playing hours and a ban at certain courts were deemed the two most acceptable measures.

They were followed by quiet periods with no pickleball activities, mandated use of sound dampening equipment and a complete ban across all courts in Sengkang.

The racket caused by pickleball has been a <a discourage late-night play.

Signs at courts in other estates have also been put up, advising players to restrict their games to specified timings.

In January, a <a href="https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/mountbatten-residents-trial-silent-pickleball-with-foam-balls-to-reduce-noise?ref=inline-article" rel="noopener" class="gap-x-04 items-center months. Only foam balls can be used at a multi-purpose court in Block 119A Plantation Crescent that is open from 9.30am to 8pm daily.

SINGAPORE – Pickleball will be banned at certain courts managed by the Sengkang Town Council (SKTC) from Nov 1, with nine courts approved for play…

[2611

post-95207","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-buzz-headlines","wpcat-2611-id
["GET
