Chaplin, by contrast, built his comedy on slapstick and mime.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">During the pandemic, Marriott, who was developing a new production at the time, decided to revisit <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">City Lights<\/em>, Chaplin\u2019s 1931 masterpiece. In the film, Chaplin\u2019s character, Little Tramp, falls in love with a blind flower seller and exhausts every effort to secure her rent and fund a sight-restoring surgery.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201c<em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">City Lights<\/em> seemed perfect because there are no words,\u201d Marriott says. \u201cIt resonated with what the world went through during the pandemic, when there were all these thoughts from all around the world of people helping each other.
