Local influencer couple Sherrin and Yixi<\/a>, aged 24 and 27 respectively,\u00a0recently opened the doors to their 1,216 sq ft four-room resale HDB flat on\u00a0Kaypoh Room Tours<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and revealed “the retail cost” of the renovation is S$300,000.<\/p>\n Yes, that’s just for the renovation.<\/p>\n Sherrin and Yixi acknowledged that sponsorships helped offset the costs, though they didn’t reveal how much.<\/p>\n The couple had viewed several newer BTO flats being sold on the resale market but found them too small.\u00a0“So we went for a little bit more of an older flat ‘cos it’s bigger,” they explained.<\/p>\n And let’s just say the couple, who have been creating content together since they started dating in 2019, went all out with their home reno.<\/p>\n Think chandeliers, elaborate wall panelling and even a decorative fireplace. You might just forget you’re in Singapore, at least until you look out the window.<\/p>\n And at 1,216 sq ft, their eventual choice offered plenty of room for the French-inspired home they had in mind, with features often seen in classic European interiors.<\/p>\n “So there’s a lot of wainscoting. Even our cabinetry has wainscoting and its very, very time-consuming and expensive to do. So I think that one is a big part of it,” Sherrin explained.<\/p>\n Their living and dining areas also feature two large chandeliers, while a decorative fireplace from Taobao adds to the European feel.<\/p>\n It may not be a real fireplace but Sherrin says she liked the idea of having a cosy spot where they could even hang Christmas stockings.<\/p>\n And if you’re wondering whether the chandeliers were a little over the top, the couple actually considered that too.<\/p>\n “We had this discussion that time when we were still renovating the house, everything was still in shambles. And then the chandelier came in, we sat over here and we were deciding, is it a bit too much?” said Yixi<\/p>\n But I feel like it’s the centerpiece of the house. Without it, it doesn’t look French, you know?” Sherrin added.<\/p>\n Of course, when two people move into a home together, there are bound to be compromises.<\/p>\n And in their case, those compromises involved Pok\u00e9mon cards and a gaming computer.<\/p>\n You see, while Sherrin wanted a coordinated French-inspired interior, Yixi had some decorating ideas of his own, like displaying his Pok\u00e9mon card collection. Unfortunately for him, that idea was vetoed.<\/p>\n And his gaming setup apparently wasn’t quite French enough either.<\/p>\n “Because Sherrin said that my computer a bit ugly. So our ID actually concealed this study area,” Yixi explained.<\/p>\n But rather than getting rid of his gaming setup, their interior designer created a concealed study area where Yixi could keep his computer and gaming equipment.<\/p>\n “You can tell why I want it concealed right? It’s like black and..\u00a0it’s like…” trailed Sherrin, before Yixi went, “So guy stuff.”<\/p>\n “Yeah, so ‘guy stuff”. It doesn’t fit the French theme. So when we have guests over we just cover that to become a mahjong room. So aesthetic, right?” Sherrin asked.<\/p>\n And while his Pok\u00e9mon cards aren’t proudly displayed in the main living area, Yixi still has a collection tucked away in his personal space.<\/p>\n Well, at least the cards have somewhere to stay. Even if they aren’t quite part of the French aesthetic.<\/p>\n Sherrin and Yixi had wanted to live together long before buying their first home.<\/p>\n The couple, who have been dating since 2019, previously lived separately and would meet almost every day.<\/p>\n But before other young couples rush off to buy a flat together, Sherrin and Yixi advised that they go overseas together as a sort of trial period.<\/p>\n “Last year we had an almost one-month trip to Europe. Yeah, it does help. You start to see the habits of someone,” says Sherrin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
