The new device takes a different approach, combining the convenience of a fitness band with features typically found on a smartwatch.

The Fitbit Edge features a Hybrid OLED display, which Google describes as the largest and brightest screen it has put on a fitness tracker. The display offers 46% more viewing area than previous trackers, with content designed to remain readable even in direct sunlight.

Despite its larger display, the Fitbit Edge has an 11.5mm-thin aluminium case and weighs 45% less than the Apple Watch Series 12, according to Google. It is also water-resistant to 50m, making it suitable for swimming and other water-based activities.

One of the Fitbit Edge’s more notable features is its repairability. Google says it is the company’s first repairable fitness tracker, thanks to an internal modular architecture and a replaceable battery. This could make the device easier to maintain over time, potentially extending its useful lifespan instead of requiring users to replace the entire tracker when the battery deteriorates.

Battery life is another highlight. The Fitbit Edge can last up to seven days on a single charge, while a quick five-minute charge provides up to a full day of use.

The Fitbit Edge also introduces a new on-device interface designed to make essential information easier to check at a glance. Customisable complications display information such as step counts, weather and workout data, while interactive tiles provide access to Google Health metrics, including sleep, cycle tracking and heart rate.

For exercise tracking, the Fitbit Edge supports more than 50 workout modes and comes with built-in precision GPS. Google claims the GPS delivers up to 40% better tracking accuracy than previous generations, which should benefit outdoor activities such as running, walking, and cycling.

Other health and fitness features include an on-wrist ECG app, optical heart rate monitoring, a dedicated skin temperature sensor, and an integrated altimeter.

Availability and Pricing

The Fitbit Edge comes in four finishes: Matte Black, Fog, Olive, and Canyon. Each comes with Google’s Active Band, an ultra-soft strap. Users can also customise the wearable with other first-party options, including the Active Sport Band, Performance Loop Band, Magnet Band and Metal Links Band.

You can pre-order the Fitbit Edge for S$249 through the Google Store and participating retail partners, including Metapod, Best Denki, Shopee, and Lazada. It will reach retail shelves on 27 October via Metapod, Best Denki, FairPrice, Harvey Norman, Shopee, and Lazada.

Every purchase also includes three months of Google Health Premium, giving users access to additional health and fitness insights during the introductory period.

Source: Google

Months after introducing a screenless fitness tracker, Google has unveiled its next-generation wearable, the Fitbit Edge.
