A two-storey heritage house near the Botanic Gardens is looking for a new tenant.<\/p>\n
The 3,208 sq ft house, sitting on a land area of 9,418 sq ft, was recently put up for a two-year lease by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).<\/p>\n
According to its State Property Information Online (SIPO) portal, the property at 15 Ross Avenue is to be used for residential purposes only.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ross Avenue is believed to have been named after Nobel Prize-winning physician Sir Ronald Ross, who is known for his pioneering research on malaria.<\/p>\n
The neighbourhood was home to university educators, while the house counts the former head of the School of Architecture at the University of Singapore among its former tenants, SLA said.<\/p>\n

The University of Singapore was the predecessor of the National University of Singapore.<\/p>\n
“The house itself has plenty of architectural character. Look closer and you’ll spot intricate star-shaped and floral patterns on the window grilles, along with elegant scrollwork on the balcony railings.<\/p>\n
“Inside, high ceilings, large windows, a sheltered verandah and an upper-floor balcony offer airy spaces to unwind and enjoy the surrounding greenery,” the authority wrote in its introduction of the property.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It is one of several heritage houses along Ross Avenue and nearby Leyden Hill, which takes its name from Malay language and literature scholar John Leyden.<\/p>\n
