Two women were caught on video rummaging through a recycling bin at Block 486 Segar Road, with one seen taking clothes from the collection point.<\/p>\n
Stomper Jeslyn <\/strong>shared photos and videos of the incidents, which she said occurred on Oct 14 and 15.<\/p>\n On Oct 14 at about 9am, she spotted an open recycling compartment overflowing with clothes, bags and other items, some of which were strewn on the ground.<\/p>\n Footage showed a woman taking clothing items from the bin and placing them into a bag on her trolley.<\/p>\n The following day at about 8am, while she was out buying breakfast for her children, Jeslyn spotted another woman accompanied by a dog rummaging through the bin.<\/p>\n The woman was seen searching through piles of clothes at the collection point.<\/p>\n \u201cUsually, I don\u2019t really bother when people collect recyclable items from the recycling bins, as long as they don\u2019t damage public property or create a mess,\u201d Jeslyn told Stomp.<\/p>\n \u201cHowever, I\u2019ve noticed that the situation has been getting worse, and this is definitely not the first time it has happened.\u201d<\/p>\n The Stomper saw the compartment open with clothes overflowing on Oct 14.<\/p>\n PHOTO: STOMP<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n Jeslyn believes the bin may have been repaired previously, as she recalled seeing a lock installed on it.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019m not mistaken, the recycling bin was previously repaired, as I noticed that a lock had been installed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n She is concerned about the condition of the collection point and possible damage to public property.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I decided to report this matter to you. I believe we should all do our part to look after our shared public facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n Jeslyn said she had also lodged a report through the OneService app and would leave it to the relevant authorities to investigate and decide whether any action was necessary.<\/p>\n The i-Bins at the location are part of ALBA\u2019s recycling initiative in the area.<\/p>\n In response to Stomp\u2019s queries, ALBA said on Oct 16 that it had cleaned up the area around the recycling bin at Block 486 Segar Road and replaced the bin\u2019s lock.<\/p>\n \u201cThe lock on the bin has since been replaced to enhance security and prevent unauthorised access,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n ALBA added that the bin is cleared at least once a week and that it would continue monitoring the area to ensure the surroundings remain clean.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will also remind residents and users of the recycling bin to help keep the surrounding space tidy and considerate for everyone in the community,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n Similar incidents involving textile recycling bins have made headlines recently.<\/p>\n On Oct 4, a delivery rider got a \u2018fright\u2019 after seeing legs sticking out of a textile recycling bin<\/a> at a Jurong West void deck at midnight.<\/p>\n The rider said he had seen the man rummaging through the bin several times between Sept 28 and Oct 4, often in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n He also claimed the man would emerge with a bag of clothes.<\/p>\n In January, clothes were seen overflowing from a Cloop recycling bin in Yishun<\/a>.<\/p>\n A video showed bags and loose clothing piled against the bin, with some items protruding from its openings.<\/p>\n In response to Stomp\u2019s queries then, Cloop said the bin had been cleared regularly but donation volumes could increase significantly during peak periods such as the spring-cleaning season, causing bins to fill up sooner than usual.<\/p>\n Editor\u2019s note: This article has been updated to include a statement from ALBA.<\/em><\/p>\n Have something to say?
