While many thought that the heavy rain around Singapore on Thursday (Oct 15) morning would help “wash away” the haze, the resulting grey rainwater sparked concern among some locals.<\/p>\n
A resident from Ang Mo Kio, surnamed Zhong, told 8World that the three buckets of rainwater she had collected were blackish-grey.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a video uploaded on the Singapore Parents Instagram page also showed several buckets of murky rainwater.<\/p>\n
“When raindrops fall, they pull some pollution particles out of the air,” CNA explained in a video on Thursday.<\/p>\n
But as the haze is made out of fine smoke and pollution particles, the rain may not wash them all away very quickly.<\/p>\n
Hence, the grey rainwater.<\/p>\n
After viewing the post of the murky rainwater, some netizens expressed their concern.<\/p>\n
“I pity my lungs now,” one wrote.<\/p>\n
Another said that the water in their fish pond at home had also turned the same colour.<\/p>\n

Singapore’s air quality entered the “Very Unhealthy” range on Wednesday<\/a>, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reaching 203 in western Singapore.<\/p>\n
While the air quality improved slightly earlier on Thursday, it entered the unhealthy range again, hitting 205\u00b5g\/m3 in the central region at 5pm.<\/p>\n
Outdoor and non-air conditioned ActiveSG facilities across Singapore are temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, according to Sport Singapore.<\/p>\n
