The Ministry of Health (MOH) has said that KN95, FFP2 and KF94 masks are effective in reducing exposure to haze particles.<\/p>\n
In an update to its haze advisory on Wednesday (Oct 14), the ministry stated that these three mask types are equivalent to N95 masks, with their differing names reflecting their respective national standards.\u00a0<\/p>\n
N95 masks and their equivalents can generally be found at major pharmacies and supermarkets such as Guardian, Unity, FairPrice and Watsons as well as their online platforms, MOH added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the health ministry noted that there are no international certification standards for the use of masks in children.<\/p>\n
Instead, MOH advised that the AIR+ Smart Mask may be used by children without heart or lung conditions where necessary, provided it maintains a well-fitted seal at all times.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ministry emphasised that the key precaution for children during haze episodes is to follow its haze health advisory when planning outdoor activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The full advisory<\/a> can be found on MOH’s website.\u00a0<\/p>\n The clarification comes amid worsening haze conditions in Singapore, with air quality entering the “Very Unhealthy” range for the first time in 2026<\/a> at 9pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reached 203 in western Singapore, surpassing last week’s record of 192 in central Singapore.<\/p>\n At 9am today, the PSI in western Singapore climbed higher to 208 despite the onset of rain<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Government has also begun distributing N95 masks to vulnerable Singaporeans<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n In its daily haze situation update on Wednesday, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the masks would be made available progressively at designated collection points, though they may not be immediately available at all locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n It added that vending machines are being progressively deployed across the island from Wednesday evening, and stocks at all collection points would be replenished progressively and regularly.\u00a0<\/p>\n Eligible recipients of the government-issued N95 masks include those from the Pioneer and Merdeka Generations, holders of the Community Health Assistance Scheme (CHAS) Blue and Orange cards, Medical Fee Exemption Card (MFEC), and recipients of ComCare Assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n They can collect their masks at Community Clubs or designated vending machines at selected public transport hubs, Social Service Offices and People’s Association venues.\u00a0<\/p>\n Pregnant women, children aged seven to 16 and those with medical conditions such as asthma can also collect their masks at Community Clubs.\u00a0<\/p>\n Members of the public can access the HazeMaskGoWhere website<\/a> for more information on the eligibility criteria, collection locations and live updates on mask availability at vending machine.\u00a0<\/p>\n [[nid:743469]]<\/p>\n carol.ong@asiaone.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Ministry of Health (MOH) has said that KN95, FFP2 and KF94 masks are effective in reducing exposure to haze particles.
