SINGAPORE \u2013 A teen who helped launder money for a Malaysian syndicate on the instructions of a person with the nickname \u201cJohn Wick\u201d has been sentenced to reformative training for at least a year.<\/p>\n
The 19-year-old cannot be named as he had committed some of the offences before he turned 18.<\/p>\n
On Oct 14, he pleaded guilty to three charges \u2013 conspiring to access a computer to commit theft, transferring benefits from crime, and being in the company of a person with a karambit knife.<\/p>\n
Six similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.<\/p>\n
On April 3, 2025, the teen met with a friend who told him about a \u201cJohn Wick\u201d on Telegram.<\/p>\n
Unlike the John Wick played by Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves in a series of movies<\/span><\/a> about the titular fictional assassin, this one was looking for runners to help a Malaysian syndicate launder money.<\/p>\n The runners were to withdraw cash from automated teller machines (ATMs) in Singapore using compromised account credentials.<\/p>\n \u201cJohn Wick\u201d promised commissions of up to $2,000 for every $100,000 withdrawn.<\/p>\n The teen and his friend withdrew a total of $19,000 from six ATMs located in Bedok North Street, New Bridge Road and People\u2019s Park Complex on April 3 and 4, 2025.<\/p>\n Acting on the instructions of an unknown Malaysian operative, they later handed the cash to an unknown person they referred to as the \u201cmoney changer\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cJohn Wick\u201d then paid the friend $750, of which $250 was handed to the teen.<\/p>\n Separately, on Aug 19, 2025, the teen and the same friend were among a group of youth who confronted another group at a Tampines carpark in a dispute over a girl.<\/p>\n Holding a karambit knife, the friend made a youth from the other group kneel and apologise while pulling his ears, and also punched the victim on the shoulder.<\/p>\n When the groups subsequently left the carpark, the knife was discarded in the vicinity.<\/p>\n The police were later called about a case of fighting and arrested the teen and his friends and seized the knife.<\/p>\n Court documents also said the teen was found with a knuckleduster and arrested on another occasion in June 2024.<\/p>\n Highlighting the seriousness of his offences, the prosecution told the court that probation was unsuitable for the 19-year-old, as he had been arrested at least three times from June 2024 to January 2026.<\/p>\n He is currently out on bail and is expected to begin serving his sentence on Oct 26.<\/p>\n For helping the syndicate launder money from crime, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined $500,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n SINGAPORE \u2013 A teen who helped launder money for a Malaysian syndicate on the instructions of a person with the nickname \u201cJohn Wick\u201d has been…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":92972,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"fifu_image_url":"","fifu_image_alt":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[2611],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-92971","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-buzz-headlines","wpcat-2611-id"],"brizy_media":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92971","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=92971"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92971\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/92972"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=92971"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=92971"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=92971"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
