A 52-year-old man was arrested by the police after he assaulted two Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) active mobility enforcement officers (AMEOs) during a recent enforcement operation.<\/p>\n
LTA said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12) that the incident, involving a male rider suspected of using a non-compliant device, happened in Ang Mo Kio.<\/p>\n
The man was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.<\/p>\n
“LTA has zero tolerance for violence or abuse against our officers. We will work closely with the police to ensure that such acts are dealt with sternly,” it said.<\/p>\n
“We remind all members of the public to cooperate with our officers and comply with their instructions during enforcement checks.”<\/p>\n
In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the police said that the man was arrested on Oct 8.<\/p>\n
Investigations into the offence \u2014 which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ jail, a fine, or caning \u2014 are ongoing.<\/p>\n
70 devices ‘up lorry’<\/h2>\n
Meanwhile, AMEOs detected a total of 503 offences during enforcement operations in September.<\/p>\n
According to LTA, 70 devices were impounded.<\/p>\n
Based on the photos shared by LTA, these operations took place in vicinity of Bukit Panjang, Balestier and Whampoa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We will continue to conduct regular patrols and take firm action against errant users, including those using non-compliant devices and riding on pedestrian overhead bridges to keep our paths safe for everyone,” LTA said.<\/p>\n
