Founder <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Grant Ashton<\/span> says the move reflects a global shift away from spirits \u2013 which can reach 40 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV) \u2013 towards wine, typically 12 to 14 per cent ABV.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWine is halfway down to zero,\u201d he says, mapping out the spectrum from spirits to non-alcoholic drinks. \u201cIf you\u2019re starting from spirits, wine is your sweet spot. A lot of the younger generation is starting from wine as being their naughty place and going back lower than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\"><span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Alcohol consumption among young adults<\/span> has been declining. According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, alcohol use among <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Gen Z adults<\/span> aged 18 to 29 fell by more than 5 per cent between 2022 and 2024. In China, <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\"><em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">baijiu<\/em><\/span> sales softened, particularly among younger consumers, who increasingly see the 40 to 60 per cent ABV spirit as their parents\u2019 drink.<\/div>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1molpf5 e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-bjn8wh e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"67 Pall Mall founder Grant Ashton. For those who do drink, however, he sees wine occupying a middle ground: it has less alcohol than spirits and, he says, is more interesting than <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">beer<\/span>.
