The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has caught even more drivers providing illegal ride-hailing services between Singapore and Malaysia in the past four weeks.<\/p>\n
LTA officers conducted enforcement operations at the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints on Nov 4 and impounded five vehicles, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling in a social media post on the same day.<\/p>\n
She added: “Prior to today’s ops, four vehicles were also impounded in the past three weeks, across various locations in Singapore.”<\/p>\n
The locations included areas such as North Bridge Road and Jalan Sultan, according to LTA.<\/p>\n
“We continue to conduct enforcement operations with tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association and National Taxi Association to protect passenger safety and the interests of licensed drivers,” said LTA in its own social media post<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n This followed an Oct 6 post where LTA said it caught 15 errant drivers<\/a><\/span> that week.<\/p>\n Ms Sun said that since July, 126 vehicles have been impounded.<\/p>\n Drivers caught providing illegal ride-hailing services face up to $3,000 fines and\/or six months’ jail, and possible vehicle forfeiture.<\/p>\n She added in her post: “As unlicensed vehicles do not have the necessary insurance and pose safety risks, I urge commuters to use only legal and licensed vehicles for cross-border travel needs.”<\/p>\n If you spot any illegal ride-hailing services, report them at go.gov.sg\/report-illegal-rides<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n
