It remains to be seen whether Apple will make further adjustments to production orders from next month.

One supply chain source reportedly said demand for the new Pro models is “not as strong as previous years when all the new models are introduced all together”.

This could partly be attributed to Apple’s revised launch strategy this year. Instead of unveiling its entire iPhone lineup at the same time, Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro models and the iPhone Duo in September, while reportedly reserving the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 for spring 2027.

Customers could be adopting a wait-and-see approach and want to see what the standard iPhone 18 is like before deciding if they should pony up the money for an iPhone 18 Pro. They could also be waiting for the iPhone Duo – pre-orders for Apple’s first foldable phone starts on 16 October.

Customers could be waiting for the iPhone Duo.

Photo: HWZ

The “dampened consumer demand” could aso be attributed to the price hike across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, with price increases ranging from S$100 to S$800, depending on the model and storage configuration. With smartphone buyers facing higher prices amid rising component costs, some consumers may be less willing to upgrade immediately.

A similar challenge may await the iPhone Duo, which starts at S$3,099 but reportedly lacks several features found on the iPhone 18 Pro, including a variable-aperture camera, a dedicated telephoto camera, Face ID, and the Pro controls in the Camera app.

However, supplier production adjustments do not necessarily translate directly into final sales figures. They may also reflect Apple’s efforts to manage inventory and align component supply with its latest demand forecasts.

Apple is scheduled to report its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings on 6 November. The results could provide a clearer picture of how its latest iPhones are performing, although the company’s financial disclosures may not break out sales of individual models.

Source: Nikkei Asia via 9to5Mac

The iPhone 18 Pro models may not be selling as strongly as Apple had anticipated.
