But that&#8217;s not to say you can&#8217;t find some similar thrills elsewhere. <em>Galactic Racer<\/em> exists in a proud lineage of sci-fi, anti-gravity racing games, and in the equally proud lineage of Criterion Games, the Guildford-based developer where Fuse&#8217;s founders and many of its staff worked. You can have a lot of fun tracking <em>Galactic Racer<\/em>&#8216;s influence back (and forward) through the genre. Fuse Games is founded by staff from Criterion Games, which created the Burnout series, and Burnout&#8217;s high-octane racing action, focused on boost mechanics and wrecking opponents, is a clear influence on <em>Galactic Racer<\/em>. 2008&#8217;s open-world <em>Burnout Paradise <\/em>isn&#8217;t the closest in spirit to <em>Galactic Racer <\/em>\u2014 that would probably be the aggressive <em>Burnout 3: Takedown <\/em>\u2014 but it is the best, and the easiest to play on modern systems thanks to a 2018 remaster.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"f-zero-gx\">\n            <span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span><br \/>\n        <span><br \/>\n                            F-Zero GX<br \/>\n                    <\/span><br \/>\n       <\/h2>\n<p><strong>Where to play: <\/strong>Nintendo Classics GameCube collection on Nintendo Switch 2 \u2014 included in a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo&#8217;s F-Zero series was one of the pioneers of sci-fi anti-grav racing games when it launched on the SNES in 1990, and immediately set the standard for blistering speed and intense competition between huge fields of racers. You can sample pretty much the entire series on Nintendo Classics, or try the brilliant battle-royale twist on it, <em>F-Zero 99<\/em>, on Nintendo Switch Online. But, for my money, the pick of the bunch is 2003&#8217;s <em>F-Zero GX<\/em> for GameCube, which was made by Toshihiro Nagoshi at Sega&#8217;s Amusement Vision studio (<em>Super Monkey Ball<\/em>). Fast kept the flame of high-speed anti-grav racing lit after F-Zero and Wipeout fell by the wayside, holding space in the genre until <em>Galactic Racer<\/em> came along. But you&#8217;ll find a kindred spirit of sorts in <em>Unbound<\/em>, the last Need for Speed game EA made before it turned Criterion into a full-time Battlefield support studio. <em>NFS Unbound<\/em> is a hardscrabble street-racing game in which you have to eke out upgrades for your banger by gambling on yourself, featuring a fixed calendar that only gives you so much time to prepare for a championship race. Sound familiar?
