hardest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) level there <!-- -->rose to 186 at 2pm<!-- -->, the highest so far<!-- --> <!-- -->in<!-- --> 2026<!-- -->, while the hourly PM2.5 reading stood in the<!-- --> \u201celevated\u201d <!-- -->band at <!-- -->131.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">PSI readings across all regions in Singapore \u2013 including that of the central area \u2013 have been inching upwards since morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At 9am, <!-- -->the central region<!-- --> <!-- -->logged a reading of 170, surpassing <!-- -->the previous high of 167 recorded in the same area on Sept 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">By 2pm, the PSI in the central region had hit 186.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"landscape inline-media-wrapper\" the north, 164 in the south, 159 in the east, and 177 in the west.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Air quality is considered unhealthy when the PSI \u2013 a 24-hour rolling average of six key air pollutants \u2013 is in the range of 101 to 200.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">PSI readings across all five regions in Singapore have remained largely in the unhealthy range <!-- -->for most of Oct 8 and Oct 9<!-- -->, with some areas dipping into the moderate range between <!-- -->6pm on Oct 8 and 1am on Oct 9<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Since 2am, all regional readings have returned to the unhealthy range.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"responsive-iframe-base st_visuals st_visuals-embed\" title=\"st_visuals embed\" scrolling=\"no\" Singapore at 2<!-- -->pm <!-- -->\u2013 east (116), west (144), south (120) and north (92).<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The hourly PM2.5 reading is used as a gauge for immediate air quality, with scores from 56 to 150 indicating elevated pollution levels, while values of 151 to 250 represent high pollution levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The highest hourly PM2.5 data-testid=\"article-subhead-test-id\">Reduce outdoor activities<\/h2>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">When the 24-hour PSI readings are in the unhealthy range, those who are healthy should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical activities, according to the National Environment Agency\u2019s (NEA) haze advisory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Vulnerable people \u2013 including the elderly, pregnant women, children and those with chronic lung or heart disease \u2013 should minimise or avoid such activities entirely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">When PM2.5 readings are high \u2013 between 151 and 250 \u2013 people should avoid strenuous outdoor activities for the next hour.
