JBL\u00a0has launched\u00a0the Cove<\/b>, a new range of Wi-Fi speakers built for whole-home audio. The line-up consists of three models: the compact\u00a0Cove M1<\/b>\u00a0(S$399), the battery-powered\u00a0Cove P1<\/b>\u00a0(S$659) and the flagship\u00a0Cove X1<\/b>\u00a0(S$799). Each works on its own, as a stereo pair, or as part of a multi-room system controlled through the JBL One app.<\/p>\n

It is a clear move into territory long dominated by Sonos, whose Era 100 SL and portable Sonos Play launched here earlier this year at S$349 and S$549 respectively.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Cove M1<\/b>\u00a0is the entry point into the lineup, being a compact speaker with three tweeters and a woofer for everyday listening. The\u00a0Cove P1<\/b>\u00a0is the portable option, adding an up-firing tweeter for Dolby Atmos, an IP56 rating against dust and water, and up to 14 hours of battery life, plus it recharges when you drop it back on its dock. The\u00a0Cove X1<\/b>\u00a0sits at the top of the proverbial pile with four tweeters, one of them up-firing, and dual woofers for Dolby Atmos sound that JBL says can fill a room.<\/p>\n

All three share the same core features: automatic self-tuning for the room they are placed in, stereo pairing, and multi-room playback.<\/p>\n

JBL\u2019s pitch is that you can place a Cove speaker anywhere and let it sort itself out. Automatic self-tuning adjusts the sound to the room, Constant Sound Field technology aims to keep the sound balanced throughout the space, and AI Sound Boost reduces distortion at high volumes.<\/p>\n

Day to day, JBL has tried to keep things simple. Setup takes three steps. To play music across the house, you create a group in the JBL One app<\/b>. And to listen in just one room, you simply start streaming there, with no need to ungroup or reset speakers first. A Music Follows Me feature lets your music move with you from room to room: simply press and hold the Moment button on the speaker, no phone or app needed. The same button doubles as Spotify Tap for one-touch access to Spotify.<\/p>\n

Connectivity options generally cover most bases, with hi-res audio support over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect.<\/p>\n

The Cove speakers also work with JBL\u2019s Bar Series MK2 soundbars<\/b>: the Bar 300, Bar 500, Bar 800, Bar 1000 and Bar 1300 MK2. Through the JBL One app, you can add Cove speakers to a soundbar as rear channels for a multi-channel Dolby Atmos setup. For now, this works with the Cove M1 and Cove P1 only, and JBL says support for the Cove X1 will arrive in a future software update.<\/p>\n
