A 58-year-old man was arrested after a two-hour standoff at a residential block in Jurong East on Tuesday night (Oct 6).<\/p>\n
In response to AsiaOne’s queries, both the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) <\/strong>said it received calls for assistance at Block 240B Jurong East Avenue 1 at around 8.25pm.<\/p>\n Upon arrival, police officers established that the man had locked himself inside his unit and that he may pose a danger to himself.<\/p>\n Officers from the police’s Special Operations Command and Crisis Negotiation Unit, along with SCDF personnel, were deployed to the scene.<\/p>\n As a precautionary measure, SCDF set up a safety life air pack at the foot of the block, with Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team officers on standby.<\/p>\n Officers managed to gain entry into the flat at around 10.30pm.<\/p>\n A knuckle duster was found in the unit.<\/p>\n The man was subsequently arrested for scheduled weapons and drug offences, police added.<\/p>\n He has been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for suspected drug-related offences.<\/p>\n Police investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n [[nid:747003]]<\/p>\n helmy.saat@asiaone.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A 58-year-old man was arrested after a two-hour standoff at a residential block in Jurong East on Tuesday night (Oct 6).
