In 1998, Hong Kong photographer Rensis Ho was asked by the now-defunct newspaper Hong Kong Daily News to shoot some portraits of Ryuichi Sakamoto during the Japanese musician\u2019s visit to promote his album Discord<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Ho\u2019s portfolio was jam-packed with celebrities even then. His reputation had seen him entrusted with taking pictures of Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs, as well as local stars such as Aaron Kwok Fu-shing and Anita Mui Yim-fong.<\/p>\n

But to this day, Ho can still vividly recall the day Sakamoto<\/span> spent in his studio. \u201cHe didn\u2019t talk a lot, but I could tell he was a really spiritual person,\u201d he tells the Post.<\/div>\n

Only a handful of the images that he took were published. Remarkably, nearly 30 years later, the complete set of portraits is being exhibited for the very first time, more than two years after Sakamoto\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

In 1998, Sakamoto was already world famous thanks to his work on the scores for Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence<\/em> (1983), which he also acted in, and The Last Emperor<\/em><\/span> (1987), as well as the pioneering electronic music he had created since the 1970s.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
