A tenant in Bukit Gombak has revealed that he was told to shower less and pay extra if he wants to cook, according to a video he uploaded to TikTok on Sunday (Oct 4).<\/p>\n
In the video, the tenant, an international student who declined to share his name, questioned: “Are all Singaporean landlords this strict, or is it only mine?”<\/p>\n
He shared that he has been living in the HDB flat for about two months and that the <\/strong>“rules are getting crazy”.<\/p>\n According to the tenant, who lives with two others in a shared room, they were collectively told not to come home late, not to eat in the kitchen and not to put their belongings in the kitchen shelves.<\/p>\n While he took these restrictions in stride, it was the alleged restriction on cooking that he felt was the most significant.<\/p>\n The tenant explained that the agreement he signed with the landlord indicated that he is allowed to cook.<\/p>\n “Even on the day of signing the agreement, the landlord said to us that we can cook as much as we want,” he added.<\/p>\n “Now the landlord told us we need to pay $60 extra for the gas, and I’m kind of shocked.”<\/p>\n Despite his reservations, the tenant agreed to pay \u2014 only to be hit with another restriction: they would only be able to cook twice or thrice a week.<\/p>\n The tenant then purportedly confronted his landlord with the agreement and was told to “pay extra for the gas or just leave”, he said in his TikTok.<\/p>\n “It’s not only the cooking,” the tenant stated. “The landlord is telling us to shower less, which is absolutely crazy and we’re (already) only doing it once a day.”<\/p>\n Afraid of losing their deposit, the tenant shared that he is at a loss.<\/p>\n He questioned his audience: “Honestly I don’t know if it is normal in Singapore or if we just had bad luck choosing the apartment\u2026 what would you do in my situation?”<\/p>\n AsiaOne has contacted the tenant for more information.<\/p>\n In August, the same tenant had uploaded a video introducing his accommodation to his audience, calling it the “smallest apartment in Singapore”.<\/p>\n His flat appeared no different from other HDB flats in Singapore, with his likely being a four-room one.<\/p>\n However, his accommodation was just one room shared with two others \u2014 in the video, his couch-sized bed can be seen perpendicularly pressed against the foot of a similarly small bunk bed.<\/p>\n The bunk bed is shared by his two roommates, he said.<\/p>\n Despite the cramped conditions, the tenant seemed to view his living space positively, highlighting its proximity to an MRT station nearby and the greenery visible from the room.<\/p>\n “So how much do I actually pay for this?” He asked. “Whole place is $1,500, and for three students, it’s $500 per pax.”<\/p>\n Many netizens were quick to point out that his conditions were far from ideal for the price he had to pay, with some calling it a scam.<\/p>\n “If it’s $1,500 for a shared room, you’ve been scammed!” Exclaimed one user.<\/p>\n Another user said: “Views of the green and trains are everywhere!
