<\/div>Passenger services on the Johor Bahru-Singapore light rail link are expected to begin in mid-February 2027, a delay of about two months, with the extra time needed for safety certification and regulatory approval.<\/p><\/div>\n
RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO), the company operating the transit system, said in a statement that all system tests and trial runs are targeted for completion by Dec 31, Bernama reported.<\/p>\n
The RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore. It is designed with a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the journey between the two stations expected to take about five minutes.<\/p>\n
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said system integration was the cause of the RTS delay despite physical infrastructure work remaining on schedule, The Straits Times reported in Singapore.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a slight delay because, after completion, we still need certification from safety experts and regulators in both Malaysia and Singapore. To be safe, RTSO has pushed it to mid-February 2027,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said a dedicated bus hub would be created near Bukit Chagar station, and pedestrian connecting bridges built for bus and rail commuters.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are identifying a street next to Bukit Chagar station to convert into a bus hub, strictly closed to private vehicles. A dedicated link bridge will connect this hub to the RTS station,\u201d Loke was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor rail commuters (there would be) a direct link bridge from the JB Sentral KTM platform to the RTS station. This eliminates the current 800m walkway requiring passengers to exit JB Sentral before re-entering the RTS station,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
