This year and next are shaping up to be memorable for Zelda fans. A remake of 1998’s Ocarina of Time — complete with modernized visuals, free camera controls, and fully voiced cutscenes — is due out this November, and fans are eager to revisit the kingdom of Hyrule. A special Zelda 40th-anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 has even been considered virtually impossible to preorder due to overwhelming demand.

The Zelda series debuted with The Legend of Zelda in 1986, but Ocarina of Time was the game that captured the hearts of a generation, and more than two decades after its release, the title still holds a Metacritic score of 99. However, one author noted that Ocarina of Time never fully explores the perspectives of characters other than Link, and her new book, due out next year, aims to change that.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Hyrule, due out in May 2027, reimagines the story of the Hero of Time from the perspective of characters who never received their own spotlight in the game. The 332-page tale, told chronologically, begins before the events of Ocarina of Time and continues beyond the game’s conclusion, exploring what happens to Hyrule and its people afterward. Link is still a character in the book, because it would be impossible to tell the story otherwise, but rather than being front and center, he serves as the engine driving the stories of other characters.

Echoes of Hyrule is a hardcover novel with thread-sewn binding. Upon its release, it will be available in two editions. The Standard Deluxe Edition, priced at €25.95 (roughly $29.28 USD), includes the 332-page hardcover book, an Ocarina of Time GP Card print, and two exclusive bookmarks. The Hero of Time Edition, priced at €35.95 (roughly $40.49 USD), includes the items from the Standard Deluxe Edition and additional goodies such as an Ocarina manual, character map, art sheets, and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

It’s worth noting that the book is being published through Game Press and is not affiliated with Nintendo. The author, Anna-Victòria Teixidó, who writes under the pen name “Kurusonna,” is described as a longtime fan of the game. In addition to Teixidó’s writing, the novel also features a prologue by Carlos “Seijurou” Martínez, interior illustrations by María “Maiku” Lozano, and a cover designed by Víctor Polonio. Both editions of Echoes of Hyrule can be preordered from the Game Press website.

This year and next are shaping up to be memorable for Zelda fans.
